Matthew van Maastricht, MDiv, LMSW

a native Midwesterner who now calls upstate New York home, I am a writer and shepherd of souls. I care deeply about justice, wholeness, and helping people grow in the spiritual life. The spiritual life is something deeply personal, but not individualistic, as a healthy and robust spiritual life helps us to live as more loving, compassionate, and gentle people. This helps us to live in greater harmony with ourselves, with others, with nature, and with the Divine.

I serve as the shepherd of two faith communities: in Altamont and Guilderland Center, New York; and am a Companion of New Skete Orthodox Monastery in Cambridge, New York.

I seek to create a warm and open space for all sorts of spiritual wondering and exploring, especially those who wish to go deeper to encounter the Divine Mystery.

I am educated in sociology and psychology, and have master’s degrees in divinity and social work. I am an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America, a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York, and a trained spiritual director (Spiritual Renewal Center in Syracuse, NY).

I am certified in the use of the Thomas PPA behavior assessment.
